Year 1 Coronation Day Street Party

Unable to have the normal visit from the external History company to help arrange a Historic Day celebration, Year 1 team were not defeated. This term the children have been learning about Queen Elizabeth II. They have looked at her early life, her role as the monarch and as the head of the Commonwealth. They also have learnt about her coronation and the royal jewels. So it was fitting that they should have a special party to commemorate the crowning of the queen. The wonderful parents threw themselves into the preparation, helping the children to bake and make a delicious tea. The children made and decorated their homes with colourful bunting, flags, paperchains and pictures. Some even designed their own placemats and Tea Hats. Everyone looked fabulous dressed as royalty, members of the armed forces and children of the time. During Music lessons the children have learnt the words to ‘God Save the Queen’ and Mr Moore kindly joined us to lead us in our singing. There was great excitement when visiting royalty, the King and Queen of Littlegarth visited and gave us the opportunity to use our new bowing and curtseying skills. During tea some children had the opportunity to share precious anecdotes about members of their own families who had actually met royalty. The children played games and were given a choice of crafts to complete. A right royal time was had by all.
