Inter House Cricket

To mark the end of the end of a successful Cricket season on Wednesday afternoon our year 5 and 6 boys compete for the coveted Inter House Cricket Cup!  This year the competition took on a new format, similar to that adopted for the Inter House Football.   With two leagues the expectation was high and the afternoon once again did not disappoint!

Red League:  The first match saw Munnings take on Gainsborough.  Setting a total of 38 off six overs, Gainsborough looked strong with the bat but as it turned out they were even stronger in the field.  Some fantastic bowling left Munnings down to their last two batsmen and requiring three to win off of two balls.  Zac Troman faced the penultimate ball in a tense match but demonstrated no nerves to hit the ball away for four runs to take the game for Munnings!

In the next match Gainsbrough were once again in action against a very strong Constable team.  Batting first, Gainsbrough set an even higher total of 48 off of six overs.  Once more it was the Gainsbrough fielding that caught the eye with Hugh Macaulay taking three wickets in a single over!  This led to a nail biting finish with Constable needing two runs off the last ball to win.  Finn Kearney hit the ball with great power towards the boundary until Robert Ryan came from nowhere to make a dramatic catch to win the game.

This set up the last fixture between Constable and Munnings.  Both teams knew a win could crown either team champions.  In this instance however Munnings were just too strong.  Setting the highest total of the afternoon (56), they then went on to dismiss the Constable team to become the 2017 Inter House Champions!

Blue League:  In this competition Gainsbrough dominated from the start and very quickly won both of their matches against Constable and Munnings to become 2017 Inter House Champions.  This left Constable and Munnings to fight it out for second spot.  Based on the Duckworth-Lewis method of scoring Constable took second spot with Munnings third.

The afternoon was a great way to end the term.   The fantastic atmosphere created by the players and parental support was electric!  Congratulations to all that took part.  Good luck and thank you to the Year 6 pupils that are leaving us and to the Year 5 pupils have a restful summer and come back ready for what should be a very exciting Rugby season!
