Electric Lego Workshop, 11th March 2019

Electric Lego Workshop is a half-day event we have every two years for Years 5 and 6. Many tens of thousands of Lego pieces of all colours and types, together with railway track, locomotives, batteries and lights, are brought to the school by retired primary teacher and Lego expert Mr Garside and his friend Mr Speed. In groups of four or so, the children construct Lego villages which have buildings with interior lighting, a small electric railway and maybe a harbour with boats. Later, we black out the Sports Hall to simulate night-time so that the children can show off their villages with their electrical illuminations. The children use their knowledge of circuits from Science lessons and plan their towns by working and co-operating in teams. They become deeply immersed in the rather enjoyable process of brick-laying with Lego.
